Transformation Beyond the Scale
Real transformation isn\'t a before-and-after photo. It\'s the decision you make when you\'re tired of being who you\'ve been.

Transformation Isn’t What They Sell You
For a long time, the word transformation meant something surface-level to me — before-and-after photos, a number on a scale, a physique goal with a timeline. But when real change finally came for me on December 28, 2016, it had nothing to do with any of that. I got sober. That was my transformation. Everything else — the discipline, the body, the coaching — came after.
What I Was Actually Running From
I watched my dad disappear into addiction when I was 8 years old. That’s the entry point. By 14, I was doing lines in a high school photo class without knowing what it was. By 21, I was in a hotel room with a needle in my arm. I tried to get sober multiple times before 2016. I knew what I needed to change. I just didn’t know who I needed to become.
Addiction doesn’t start with the drug — it starts with the avoidance
The body reflects the war being fought inside
There is always a before-and-after that predates the gym
Faith Gave Me a Framework
White-knuckling sobriety doesn’t work long-term — I know because I tried it. What finally anchored everything was walking into The Sanctuary in Huntington Beach one Sunday and giving my life to God. I wasn’t raised in church. I expected suits and judgment. Instead I found tattooed people, genuine warmth, and a worship that stopped me cold. Within six months I was baptized.
Purpose is more durable than willpower
Identity change is what makes behavior change stick
You cannot maintain a new life with an old self-image
The Body Follows the Decision
When I started coaching, I noticed that every client who made a real transformation made a decision first. Not a resolution — a decision. The kind you make when you’ve hit something you can’t go back from. The training plan matters. Nutrition matters. But none of it works without that moment.
Showing Up Is the Work
Crane operations runs on 10-hour days and no excuses. You show up, you do the job, you go home. I brought that same mentality to my own sobriety and eventually to my coaching. There is no day off from who you’re choosing to become.
Show up on your worst days — those are the ones that define you
Consistency is not glamorous, but it compounds
Your habits are votes for the version of you that’s coming
12 Months Changes Everything
Real transformation takes time — not 30 days, not 90. At 12 months, your body is different. More importantly, your relationship with yourself is different. You’ve built something that’s harder to lose than it was to gain.
Strength gained slowly is strength that stays
Nutrition habits built into your lifestyle don’t require motivation to maintain
The version of you at month 12 makes decisions the version at month 1 couldn’t imagine
The Version of You on the Other Side
I’m not the same person I was before December 28, 2016. I’m not the same person I was before I started coaching full-time. That’s the point. Transformation is not a destination — it’s the ongoing result of the decisions you make every single day.
Train With Intent
The gym is not where transformation ends. It’s where it begins. Every rep is a decision. Every session is a vote.
Commit to 90 days before you evaluate anything
Be consistent before you try to be optimal
Trust the program and the person who has your back
You Were Chosen for More
David Thomas Fitness exists because I needed a coach like me and couldn’t find one. If you’re at the bottom of something — addiction, weight, identity, direction — this is for you. You don’t need to have it figured out. You just need to start.
Every session is a vote for who you’re becoming
Recovery and transformation are on the same road
You were chosen for more than where you are right now
